Creating a Website About Online Poker
One of the ideas you may be interested in involves online poker. Since online poker room affiliate programs may likely be your main source of revenue (but not necessarily!!), this is a logical topic to investigate. There are many facets to online poker and even to a specific online poker room.
Again, the key here is to focus on one aspect of online poker. There are online poker room review sites that rate and rank the various online poker rooms, and then link to each one of those online poker rooms, and take a commission from each real money player they refer. The online poker room affiliate programs reward websites that refer players to their poker room who play for real money.
There are also poker strategy sites that teach you how to play solid poker and how to beat the online poker game, and then they refer your to one or many online poker rooms so you may practice what you've learned. Again, these sites make their money by referring players to the online poker room via the poker room's affiliate program and special link.
In addition to the above, there are also poker sites that discuss a specific poker room in depth (and then refer players to that online poker room), poker sites that highlight certain professional poker players or discuss poker on television (and then refer players to online poker rooms), and poker sites that review poker books (and then refer players to online poker rooms AND online book stores selling those particular poker books).
Now, if you are planning on discussing, reviewing, or referring traffic to a particular online poker room, you should join that poker room and get started understanding that world. Different online poker rooms offer different sign-up bonuses, different player populations, different promotions, and even different player skill levels.
As an advocate or critic of an online poker room, you need to be well-versed in all that poker room has to offer. You should join and play at every poker room you get involved with. I, personally, am a member of over 10 online poker rooms. It is important to experience and understand the various aspects of an online poker room before you get affiliated with that room.
I'll be providing a list of the online poker rooms that you may consider joining and gaining experience from. Just playing on these sites will give you perspective and knowledge when interacting with your visitors, even if it's just the play money games. At this point, you should not set up an affiliate account with the online poker rooms before joining them. I know you're probably thinking, "Why not set up my own affiliate account, and then sign up through my own link?!? Then, I can pay myself!!!" The online poker rooms know this and consider it fraud. The online poker rooms monitor this affiliate interaction and especially monitor their outgoing checks. You would be jeopardizing your own relationship with your partner, the online poker room. And cheating from your partner isn't a great way to start a successful business! Here's the official statement from PartyPoker.com:
Don't try it!
PartyPoker.com actively discourages you from certain marketing practices.
Violating this policy will result in the immediate termination of your affiliate agreement.
DON'T TRY:
Spam on email.
Spam via downloads of any kind.
Fraud signup.
Playing under own tracker.
Discounting rake to players - Rake Back
Try and acquire existing PartyPoker.com players.
Posting Bonus Codes at websites where such posts are against the sites rules and regulations. Eg. Amazon.com book reviews etc.
What that means is if PartyPoker (the world's largest poker room and best poker affiliate!) catches you playing under your own affiliate id, they will terminate your affiliate agreement! Any players that you referred to PartyPoker, and were generating dollars from, would immediately be lost! All that potential revenue would be gone and they may not ever work with you again! This is one act you can never let happen. And most of the online poker affiliate programs work similarly, so don't consider signing up through your own affiliate links at other locations.
So, again, if you're interested in an aspect of online poker rooms, and would like to join a particular poker room, check out this list of online poker rooms. Get acquainted with some or all of these online poker rooms so you can research and develop your own information for your poker website.
